Sexual health and function determine the quality of life. As males age, sexual dysfunction is growing increasingly more important. Since this subject is widely discussed in mass media, men regardless of age are searching for aid to improve their relationships and have a satisfying intimate life. According to estimates, about 30 mln males in the United States suffer from erectile dysfunction. There are only 3 oral drugs sanctioned by the FDA to treat erectile dysfunction: Cialis, Levitra, and Viagra. The drugs relax the penile walls allowing more blood to flow to the organ, so that when a man is sexually stimulated, he can attain an erection. There are subtle differences in how long and how quickly the drug works. Levitra works a bit longer than Viagra. They both take effect in about half an hour. With Levitra, the effects last for about 5 hours. With Viagra, the effects last around 4 hours. Cialis works a bit faster (within around 15 minutes), and the effects last much longer - up to 36 hours in some cases. Though each medication has proved efficacious, none is cure-all. Besides, they can result in health problems if interact with other medicines, particularly with nitrate or nitroglycerin coronary medications, as well as cause more general side effects, such as are splitting headaches, lightheadedness, indigestion, facial flushing and - in case of Viagra - blurred vision. The medications are contraindicated in men with coronary problems, physical deformities of the penis, in men with a predisposition to protracted erections brought on by sickle cell disease, multiple myeloma (a form of cancer), leukemia, liver problems (especially dangerous liver disorders), kidney problems and in males taking certain medications used for HIV or those over 65. There have been cases when males taking the drugs died during intimacy. Please, talk to your GP before taking the medications. If your medical practitioner has prescribed you one of the drugs, strictly follow the recommended dosage. |
